Poulin Claims 888 Poker Canadian Superstack Title

April 11, 2012

888poker super stack series CanadaThe 888Poker Superstack is a tournament series that will be taking place in 7 different cities across 3 different continents and will feature a total of 23 events. This past weekend marked one of the stops, which was in Canada, and the three day series was a huge hit for players and fans. 227 players made the journey to the series and of them, the top 24 shared in a prizepool that neared the $40,000 mark.

What made this event especially important was the fact that MMA superstar Georges St-Pierre took part in it. While the pro fighter may have an affinity for poker, he did not do all that well in this event and failed to make it into the top 10. GSP was not playing to win prize money, but rather, any money that he would have won would have been donated directly to his charity. As 888’s newest ambassador, GSP will also be taking part in live poker events as a member of 888’s pro team. In fact, this summer we will see Georges St-Pierre in Las Vegas at the World Series of Poker’s Main Event.

When it came down to it, Jonathan Poulin pulled out a victory by narrowly defeating David Hamel. In the final heads-up hand Poulin had 8/2 and was up against Hamel’s 4/7. The 5 table cards ended up being K-2-7-2-5 and with three of a kind, Poulin took home the title of champion of the first Canadian 888Superstack. His victory earned him $8,500, while Hamel did not make out too badly as he walked away with $6,000. It is going to be a while until Canada sees another 888 Superstack Series, but the next event will be held sometime this coming November in Montreal.
